11 Intersting Facts about Sita that Most of us don’t know

Maharishi Valmiki wrote one of greatest Indian epic Ramayana. As a kid we grow up listening stories of Ramayana that how Rama killed cruel Ravana to end his evilness.Devi Sita was Lord Rama’s wife and main character of the Ramayana. We know many things about Sita ,her sacrifices , her love for her husband , but there are still many things that we are not aware of about her.

1. Meaning of name Sita
Meaning of name Sita is to ‘furrow’ in Sanskrit as she was found by King Janaka while ploughing the fields.Sita was known to be Goddess of fertility .[ecp code=”3″]
2. Not confirmed birthplace.
There are many disputed about Sita’s birth place as her birth place is not know. Some says its Janakapuri in the southern Nepal while some says its Sitamarhi in Bihar , India.
4. Her Swayamwar
As a kid, when Sita was playing with her sisters , she lifted the table where bow of Lord Shiva was placed . Everyone was shocked to see this because no one in Mithila could lift it.Seeing this , Janaka made this as a main backdrop of her Swayamwar because he wanted Sita’s husband as strong as her.[ecp code=”3″]
4. Avatar of Vedamati
Very few of us know that Sita was Avatar of Vedamati whom Ravana once tried to kill when she was in her cage. At that point she cursed Ravana and said that she would be cause of his death in her next birth
5.Discarded from Ayodhya
Despite being so honest and loyal , she was discarded from Ayodhya by her own husband Lord Rama. She was forced to live in the woods carrying her sons Luv and Kush.
6. Married in small age

7. The daughter of Ravana ?
Some people says that Sita was the first daughter of Ravana and Mandodari. Before her birth astrologers said that she would be the cause of Ravana’s death. Hearing this Ravana ordered to bury Sita in some distant land , where King Janaka found her.
8. Her first meeting with Lord Rama 
Almost everyone thinks that Rama first met with Sita in her Swayamwar but that not true ! It is believed that Lakshman and Rama was wandering in Janakapuri there they reached in a garden where Sita was worshipping Goddess Parvati.[ecp code=”3″]
9. She was first to perform Shraadh Puja
They were in there exile period when they the news of death of King Dashrath. At that time Sita performed Shraadh Puja for the betterment of her late father-in-law’s soul.
10. Embodiment of Goddess Lakshmi
According to Ramayana , Sita is the Avatar of Goddess Lakshmi who is known for her prosperity , happiness , wealth and success .
11. Maya Sita
It is believed that Sita had an illusionary form called Maya Sita.This mean that it was Maya Sita who was really kidnapped by Ravana, while the genuine Sita took shelter with the fire god Agni, who took her to the residence of Goddess Parvati. Afterward, she came back to Lord Ram after the war got over. Maya Sita is then said to have been renewed as Draupadi in her next life.
