Akshay Kumar is currently among top most bankable actors along with the Khans and his movies are not only excellent in entertainment and content but they also give social messages on some ‘less talked about’ topics. His last movie Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was all about spreading awareness on hygiene and the movie not only did excellent on Box Office but also got appreciation worldwide.
Akshay’s next is Padman which is releasing on January 25 this year. The film based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the real Padman who makes cheap sanitary pads for village women.
During one of the promotional events for the film, Akshay Kumar expressed his views and said that sanitary napkins should not just be tax-free, rather free for women.
“Women are going for tax-free sanitary pads, but I say it should be completely free. Cut the five percent money from defense, make one bomb less and give it to women to get sanitary napkins.”
During the media interaction, Akshay said that the bigger achievement for him is to get men discussing the issue of menstrual hygiene. He said, “It is not necessary for me to think about how much business it is going to do but every morning when I monitor my social media, I see people are talking openly about sanitary napkins and menstruation and that is I feel my film’s biggest victory.”
