Gorakhpur Tragedy Returns: 49 Children Die in Farrukhabad Hospital Due To Lack Of Oxygen
The Gorakhpur tragedy is still fresh in our minds in which 63 Children had died allegedly due to the shortage of Liquid oxygen. It seems that administration has not learnt any lesson from it and the medical negligence continues. In Farukkhabad 49 Children have died in a Government run Hospital and in this case, also the reason behind their deaths is the shortage of Oxygen.
All the deaths have occurred within one month in Ram Manohar Lohiya hospital of Farukkhabad.  A probe into the incident has been ordered by District Magistrate, Ravindra Kumar. A FIR has been lodged against the Chief Medical officer and the medical superintendent for negligence.
From July 21 to August 20 around 49 Children have died in the sick newborn care of the hospital. In the FIR filed by District Magistrate, it is mentioned that parents of the children said that the doctors didn’t put any oxygen tube.
Accusing the doctors of medical negligence,  it is also mentioned in the FIR that doctors should have the knowledge that inadequate oxygen supply can lead to death. The investigation in the case revealed ‘Perinatal Asphyxia’ to be the reason behind the death which means lack of Oxygen supply.
Farukkhabad SP, Dayanand Mishra has said that a FIR has been registered against the CMO, CMS and other doctors. Action will be taken against those found guilty as the investigation proceeds.
It must be noted here that last month around 63 Children had died in Gorakhpur BRD Medical college due to the shortage of Liquid oxygen. The vendor supplying the liquid oxygen had stopped the supply due to non-payment of the dues and the Hospital administration even though being aware of the consequences of non-availability of Liquid oxygen in the hospital did nothing due to which 63 Children had died.
