Security forces on Friday launched massive sanitization exercise in Gurmeet Ram Rahim Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters situated in Sirsa, Haryana. The operation is carried out under the supervision of retired session judge AKS Panwar who has been appointed by Punjab and Haryana High Court.

According to news agency ANI around 41 paramilitary companies, 4 army columns, the police of 4 districts, 1 SWAT team and one dog squad team are participating in the search operation. Curfew has been imposed in the area adjoining the Dera premises and according to the officials, it will continue to remain in force until the search operation is completed.
Old currency notes and a luxury car without a registration number has been recovered from the premises on Friday. Five persons have been rescued from the Dera headquarters which includes two minors. A walkie talkie has also been recovered by the search party. The plastic currency was also recovered during the operation.
There were multiple entry points inside the Dera and security checks have been installed at every 100 metres. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had said last week that some objectionable items were recovered during the sanitization of “Namcharcha Ghars “. Police have arrested around 180 people in cases related to violence which followed the conviction of Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

Dera Sacha Sauda last week surrendered around 30 rifles and pistol with live cartridges to the Haryana Police. The cache of arms included single barrel guns, double barrel guns and 9 mm pistol. The primary focus of the search is the “Gufa” around which all controversy revolves but the Dera administration has consistently said that there is no such “Gufa” in the headquarters.

In the Dera campus which spreads over sprawling 700-acre campus there lies a heart shaped multi speciality hospital, a luxury resort housed in a ship shaped structure. An international school with an aeroplane like towers is also situated inside the campus.
The whole search operation is carried amid tight security arrangements and several senior officers of different Government departments are participating in it. Several rooms have been sealed by the police and hard disk and unlabelled medicines have been recovered from them. The search operation for the day has been concluded and it will resume on Saturday.
