Receiving a call from your children’s school almost always entails some anxiety-inducing news. Parenting is a full time job, and it can even take up time from you real job that wins bread and butter for the family. When both have overlapping shifts, it just cannot be a good day.
This is the story of a mother, who is professionally a nurse. Her teenage daughter was facing issues in school and she bravely dealt with them. It is a stark reminder of teaching our kids the value of being respectful and of keeping their self-respect intact. It also shows how some events can be neglected by school administration, which should be brought to the open.
This mom was a nurse on duty when she received a call from her daughter’s school telling her it was urgent for her to come to the school.
The principal continued to explain that the boy with the bruised face had actually “twanged” her daughter’s bra. And that was when she hit him twice. The nurse figured all the people in the room were somewhat more angry at her daughter than the offender.
The boy’s mom was still in tears while his dad looked like he was extremely angry at his boy. And embarrassed. The teacher who had been favoring the boy was now not making any eye contact.
This is when I left with my daughter.
Such incidents are common in schools. And it’s worse if the school administration turns a blind eye to it. This is a stark example of bullying and it must never be allowed to go on.
If the girl hadn’t punched the boy, he would still be at it. Not deterred by any confrontation, he’ll still be bullying peers. If the girl hadn’t took matters into her own hand, she would have been allowing the offender that he can do whatever he wants.
