From starting a campfire, lighting candles on a cake, to lighting a cigarette, we all have used a lighter at some point in our lives. The little hand-held fire starter is a very useful and easy-to-carry tool. But here are some things you did not know you can do with a lighter before.
A Youtuber LXG design came up with some fun tools you can make using a lighter. These innovative ideas are really amazing. We bet you have not thought about such uses of a lighter before. Here are the 4 lighter hacks you did not know before.
1. Wood carver
If creating art is your hobby, then now you can make some cool wood-carving tools for it using a lighter. For this, you will need a lighter, screw and wood. We have some instructions for you before you attach a screw to a wire. First, use some hot glue to secure this to a popsicle stick. Drill holes in the stick to fit the wires through.
Use some hot glue to attach it to the lighter. It should be placed like as shown in the photo so that the screw sticks out over the flame. Now heat up the screw by igniting the lighter and you’re good to go.
The screw will be pretty hot so better not to touch it until it cools down. It can even puncture thick plastic without any effort. Making this tool is a bit too dangerous so you’d better off getting a wood-carving tool.
2. Hot blade
Hate the noise of styrofoam when you cut it? So why not make a hot blade and get the job done. It will not only get you a smooth line but will also not make unnecessary noises. To get this done you will need a wire, butterfly clip, lighter and popsicle stick.
Firstly, remove the wire from the butterfly clip and bend it into the above shape using pliers. This time instead of drilling holes, attach the blade to a popsicle stick using thin wire. Do this by tightly twisting it with pliers.
Now attach the stick to the lighter using electrical tape. Trim the excess wood and make sure the blade’s out. Now heat up the end of the tool and you’re good to go!
The thick wire will get so hot that it will be able to slice through a thick chunk of styrofoam with ease. Remember that these hacks are just for fun and not actual;l meant to replace the standard tools.
3. Hot glue gun
Doing an art project and don’t have a hot glue? Don’t worry ’cause now you can make one using lighter and few other material. First, you will be needing the metal tip of a pen and two small pieces wire. Use the wire pieces to secure the tip to the pen cap like above.
Use pliers to bend the wire into shape. After doing this, take a popsicle stick and spin off the rounded end. Now punch two holes into the stick, big enough for the wire to pass through. This will secure the pen cap to the stick as shown in the above picture.
Make sure the pen cap is bent directly over the flame. Next, you have to heat the end of a hot glue stick and use the melted glue to attach lighter to the stick. Now when you will flick the lighter, hot glue will melt and come out through the wide end of the pen cap.
4. Cables
You can assist yourself with connecting wires and cables by making a tool. For this, you will need an electrical tape, pliers, lighter and some thick wire. Start by bending the wire into a long narrow U-shape with two prongs at the end.
Now attach the wire to a popsicle stick by drilling holes in the stick. Take help of pliers in order to bend the prongs up towards the end of the stick. Now cut the popsicle stick to the size of the lighter and using the right amount of electrical tape, attach the stick to the top of the lighter.

Light the tools so the U-shape heats up. Don’t touch the tool after it’s been heated up. Now you have a handy object to perform some electrical work. Caution: These are pretty risky and dangerous hacks, so do not try them at home.
