OnePlus 6 was launched only last week and is now selling for a starting price of Rs 34,999 in India via Amazon and OnePlus website. In just a week, the flagship phone gets its first software update. The update comes along with May Android security patch and a bunch of new features. As promised by the company during the launch, the new software update brings the feature to hide the notch, similar to what is seen on the new Honor 10. This means, OnePlus 6 users who don't like or want the notch will be able to manually add a black strip at the status bar area to hide it. If at any point the users want to bring back the notch, they can do that by heading to the settings option.
Currently, the software update is available in the form of a downloadable ROM. The stable build of software or the OTA update will be rolling out to all OnePlus 6 users in the next few days or so. However, the exact timeline hasn't been revealed by the company. As mentioned earlier, the key feature that the software update brings to the OnePlus 6 is the hide notch option. The option will be available under the settings tab when it rolls out as OTA update. This feature will let OnePlus 6 users add a black strip to hide the notch. The users will be able to bring back the notch in the same way as the hide it.
The software update also brings new features like support for super slow motion video to the camera app on the OnePlus 6. This means, OnePlus 6 users will now be able to record super slow motion videos on their phones. The software update also brings the ability to switch to 480fps on HD (720p) resolution or 240fps on full-HD (1080p) resolution. This will help the users to add effects and filters and dramatize the video.
The software update brings the option for quick capture in portrait mode, as promised by the company co-founder at the launch event, to the OnePlsu 6. Capturing portrait shots usually takes some time. But, with the new update, OnePlus 6 users will now be able to capture a portrait shot as quickly as it clicks normal pictures. In addition, the software update also adds upgrades to the Gallery. It adds more actions support for recently deleted files. The software update also brings a preloaded OnePlus Switch app to let users easily move from an old OnePlus device to the OnePlus 6. The OnePlus Switch app is already available on other old OnePlus devices like the OnePlus 3, 3T, 5 and 5T.
To download the new software update on your OnePlus 6, you will need to download the new OxygenOS ROM from the OnePlus forums and then follow the given instructions. Or you can also wait for the OTA update rollout. To check if you've got the update or not, you can head to the Settings tab on your OnePlus 6 and then move to the System updates. It is recommended that you backup all your data before updating your device to the new software update.
