From MS Dhoni changing Rohit Sharma’s batting order to Rohit Sharma changing MS Dhoni’s position in the team. In between many things were written in history books. However, MS Dhoni batting at number 4 is always a debatable topic in the Indian cricket and Rohit Sharma answered it to the perfection.
India sealed the first game at Barabati Stadium against Sri Lanka to go 1-0 up in the 3-match series. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma quoted saying that it was a clinical performance from the bowlers and made his voice on MS Dhoni batting at number 4.
“I said earlier that toss isn’t going to make much of a difference. Dew was there for forty overs. Conditions remained the same. I think KL Rahul at the top was a great move. He wasn’t part of the ODI squad but he came and showed that he belongs. He was hitting the ball well,” Rohit said.
”Great finish to the batting innings by MS and Manish, who hasn’t got much batting time. We can’t talk much about MSD. He didn’t get much batting in the ODIs but class is permanent,” he added.
”He is someone who’s played and won so many games, so moving forward, in this format, we feel him batting at No.4 will be ideal. For a long time, MS has taken up the role of finishing and we feel it’s time for someone else to do the job. MS can play freely in the middle,” he furtherly added to his lines.
India takes 1-0 lead in 3-match series:
Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka won the toss and asked Indians to bat first. Skipper, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were looked like knocking a big tally to their name before Angelo Mathews sending Rohit back to the hut. KL Rahul who survived an LBW call after DRS, knocked the balls like a dream to reach his 2nd T20I fifty. The blitz from Dhoni and Pandey shouldered India to 180 runs on the board.
In reply to the chase, Sri Lanka never looked like after the total as they kept on losing wickets on the regular basis. Yuzvendra Chahal is the wrecker-in-chief who scalped 4 wickets to his name while the rest of the bowlers gave their helping hand in denting Sri Lanka furtherly.
